This brief snippet from Mohsin Hamid’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist is just one breath of why this book has made so many waves. The Dickensian wordplay and the heartbreaking prose of Fitzgerald make this book a work of art, but its message is what demands our attention. At what cost did we manufacture Them so that We might sleep better through the night? To what extent do we still find comfort in the plight of the Other even today? This book changed me. I’ve taught it, I’ve championed it, and I will continue to do so in the future. Read. This. Book.
